You made the commitment, you’re about to invest a lot of time and money to correcting your health problems.

How do I keep track of all this information?

I personally use the MyFitnessPal app for my smartphone and also their website at http://www.myfitnesspal.com to keep track of all the calories that I have eaten every day. What I especially love about this app is the very very large online food database they have. It quite literally has almost every food you can think is listed in their database. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

If you want to use MyFitnessPal, first you’ll need to create an account. You have the option of signing up using your Facebook account or you can use your email account.

In Step 2 the data that you input is very critical for calculating your calories and creating a proper weight loss plan. People typically put in bogus information on this page, but let me assure you that the information they are requesting is absolutely necessary.

ALSO be honest in your answers, if you are sedentary, then select sedentary; if you’re not going to workout, then select 0, etc. This is the Step where you have to be REAL HONEST with yourself.

On Step 3 you can add the email addresses of 5 friends or skip this step altogether.

After your account is created, it displays your suggested fitness and nutrition goals

If you have a smartphone (iPhone, Android or Windows Phone) you can download the app from here:

Now remember you didn’t get overweight overnight and you’re not going to lose weight overnight either. It’s going to take a lot of hard work for you but you will feel better for taking the journey.

In fact if you look at my food diary entry for over a year ago, you can see that I was still eating very poorly. I ate a lot less calories, but they were poor choices.

Now things are a lot better, I still splurge now and then (and you should) but my choices are a lot healthier

Here’s some great online video tutorials for using your MyFitnessPal:

In the next installment I’ll talk about how you can fast track your journey.
